A LATE 16TH/EARLY 17TH CENTURY PERSIAN POETIC MANUSCRIPT - YOUSUF AND ZULAIKA, HAFT AWRANG OF JAMI

Yousuf And Zulaika, Haft Awrang Of Jami, Safavid Persia, late 16th/early 17th century

Persian poetic manuscript on pink paper, xxff., each folio with 13ll. of black nasta’liq, the opening folio heading with polychrome and gold illumination, the margins applied with elegant blue, green, purple, and turquoise cartouches illuminated with scrolling gold lotuses, the text panel with vertical hemistich divider, the text surface sprinkled with gold, catchwords, chapter headings in white, in blue, green, black, and gold rules, signed Mohammad Reza, dated ‘the ninth year of the ninth tenth of nine hundreds’ (1591?), the colophon illuminated in polychromes and gold, in gold-tooled maroon morocco binding, the folio 23.5cm x 14cm, the text panel 14cm x 7.5cm.
